Eight By Eight Magazine Artfully Showcases the World Cup

The US lost to Germany today, but still advanced, meaning Americans flooded the bars, I mean streets, I mean office kitchens, excited but confused but we'll probably never not be bandwagon soccer fans.

Basically anyone from any country other than the United States will tell you soccer isn’t a game, it’s a religion. A really, really beautifully-played religion. A new magazine, Eight by Eight, has sought to create a magazine that does justice to the world sport.

According to the Eight by Eight website, designers Robert Priest and Grace Lee were inspired by the revival of a soccer-embracing culture in the US, even pulling the name from the dimensions of a goal—8 feet high by 8 yards long. Their goal is to not only create a beautiful product, but to fill it with great articles as well.

Only three issues into the project, they seem to have conquered the huge task of covering the World Cup. The 116 page World Cup Special Issue looks like something any designer would love to own, sports fan or not.

You can follow their Wold Cup coverage on their blog, The Pitch. They’ve also created a great World Cup Cheat Sheet and guidebook, for all fair-weather futbol fans.

Their Instagram feed is also filled with awesome illustrations and previews.

An Orange is the New Black Reading List

I just binged my way through the second season of Orange Is the New Black, and I have to say, I loved it so much more than season one. Amazing.

In case you aren't already following the Books of Orange is the New Black blog, this would be a great time to start.

The blog is filled with screenshots from the show of characters with their latest reads, full reading lists from both seasons and some great questions from fellow fans.

Have you guys read This is Where I Leave You? I love it. And although book adaptations aren't always the best, I am SO excited about this movie.

Plus the tagline of this magical page is "Because Piper Chapman is the new Rory Gilmore"... sort of, not really but whatevs!

Just want the reading lists? Season 1 // Season 2

Leanne Shapton's Covers for Jane Austen Novels

Once again, Leanne Shapton has created simply beautiful work. After finding these covers on Pinterest, I immediately decided I need to own them... despite any desire to ever read any Austen.

Her use of watercolors is pretty inspiring. She always seems to know exactly the right way to illustrate the subject. And she never fails to do something really great with only black and white.

This reminded me so much of her book, Sunday Night Movies

Yeah, I'd seriously buy those Austen novels with no intention of reading them.

Learn more about Sunday Night Movies over on Visual News and see more of Shapton's work on her portfolio.

Twigg's Bindery Creates Beautiful Spines

I always love seeing the stationary show round-ups from my favorite bloggers. One of the best things I saw profiled this year was Twigg's Bindery

Artist Jonna Twigg created the Brooklyn-based book and journal company for people who love books and beautiful things. They are also very locally focused and eco conscious. And I love all the colors used.

The leather collection is so perfect. I'm not ready to let go of the neutral-with-a-pop-of-neon trend yet.

Jonna also works with museums in their conservation and preservation departments, which is just super cool.

Obsessed With Harry Potter

One month later and I'm still in the process of moving thanks to an overlap of rented apartments this month. But, this just made me laugh a little too much and I had to share.

Oh man. Thanks, ThugLife.

I really need to get my HP books out of storage at my mom's house and have them shipped to Seattle. Too good.
