Book Cover Potential XVIII: Taylor Curry's Camera-less Photos

This is one of those cases where I thought I found one thing that was awesome to blog about and it turned into an overwhelming situation of beautiful things.

As in, my friend posted a link to this Boooooom article on their friend and then I checked out Taylor Curry's website and I'm upset about not discovering it sooner.

Also, I want prints of everything.

I think you'll understand why these images are just made for book covers. Maybe even a series of book covers. First, "Feathers":

Also, "Fish":

You can see more work at TaylorMCurry.com.

& thanks to Pabs for posting about this

Book Cover Potential XVII: First Selfie

I love love love that this could possibly be the first selfie we have on record. Just imagine all these guys yelling "besties!" as the shutter snaps back in December of 1920.

But you know what I love even more? This image of the selfie happening. On a book cover.

Okay, it doesn't exist yet but, oh, the possibilities! Books on technology, seniors and tech, friendship, anything!

You can learn more about the photo over at Fast Company.

Book Cover Potential XVI: Constellations Geometric Collages by Chad Wys

I started pinning these amazing collages I discovered on Design Milk, but then I realized I was really just pinning all of them because I couldn't pick a favorite and wanted everyone to see them.

It hit me they'd make great book cover images.

Plus, creator Chad Wys is Illinois-based and I'm feeling a little homesick.

You can see more over on Design Milk and on Wys' site (be careful, it is a black hole of beautiful things).

Book Cover Potential XV

These abstract photographs by Akihiko Miyoshi are wonderful on their own or paired together, but I think they would be especially great as book covers.

To see more from the series, visit Akihiko's website.

Plus, more book shelf potential.
& I wish my bookshelf lit up like this 100 Lightning Books display.

Book Cover Potential XIV

I've been in Mexico this past week for a wedding (it was amazing) and am just catching up on life, work and To Be Shelved. First, I wanted to share these embroidered vintage photographs by Jose Ignacio Romussi Murphy that I think would make absolutely beautiful book covers.

More wonderful work from Jose here

Plus, more book cover potential
& some embroidered book covers.

Book Cover Potential, XIII

When I saw these baseball action shots over on Visual News, I thought they'd make great book covers.

"The Glory of Their Times" came to mind right away, although I do love Adam Johnson's cover as well.

Plus, more photos that I think have great book cover potential.
And of course, more baseball love.

This image by Autumn De Wilde, one of my favorite photographers, would make a fantastic book cover.

Book Cover Potential XI

It's been a long time since a Book Cover Potential post. But when I saw these images I instantly thought of how great they would each be on covers.

And I have to add in one more Parisian image. I've never been to France but I've flown over the Eiffel and would love to see it from the ground someday. Especially during a lightning storm.

Would you guys pick up a book with these images on their covers?

PS. more book cover potential
& read much?

Book Cover Potential X

I'm a big fan of The Fox Is Black's series "Space Suit of the Week". I don't think this particular image by Brent Schoepf has ever been featured but I love it, and of course think it would make a real nice book cover.

Make sure to check out the rest of Flickr 'cause it is awesome.

Book Cover Potential IX

The first word that came to mind when I saw this photo was "Gatsby". It certainly wouldn't fit as a cover for the book, but I can definitely see it on a cover for a story with a similar feel.

Book Cover Potential VIII

I have so many things bookmarked that sometimes it seems like I'll never get to posting all of them. I've had this particular set of images bookmarked since February, when they were featured on Public School, one of my favorite websites. There's something about aerial photography that is just so captivating for me and I think this first image by Gerco de Ruijter would make such a perfect book cover.

All of his images are really beautiful and make me anxious for my next flight.
See more by Gerco HERE.

Book Cover Potential VII

It is always so interesting to me what different people deem picture worthy, and how those decisions can still matter a hundred years later. I just spent the past few hours (super lazy evening) browsing The Field Museum's Flickr photostream and I discovered some really wonderful vintage photographs that I think would make excellent book covers (plus, no copyright restrictions).

I only pulled a few to share here but I recommend heading over to Flickr and taking a look yourself. I just think all of these are so perfect and beautiful. I know there are plenty of museums with archives on Flickr other than The Field Museum that are worth digging through as well. You could probably spend weeks browsing them. At the risk of sounding nostalgic for school days, what a great, free educational resource.

Back to covers, I can totally see the ones I've included fitting perfectly with some of my favorite books and the personalities of some of my favorite authors (especially Michael Pollan and Bill Bryson). I'm so glad I spent some time on this archive.

PS. If you've missed my previous posts on images with book cover potential, you can check them out HERE.

Book Cover Potential VI

I haven't posted any images that I thought would make good book covers for quite a while, but this is the one to restart them all. I love this instant photo of a bathtub from Etsy user EyetOy. I think it would work great for an autobiography or short story collection.

Book Cover Potential, V : Joe

This image is actually my friend Joe's profile picture on Facebook, but I think it would look pretty cool on a book cover.

Here's why:
  • I love how grainy and pixelated the image is, especially because it involves drinking. Joe said the image is like that because it is a picture he took on is phone of one block on a photo strip.
  • The muted colors
  • The idea that the picture is so focused on one person. You can tell other people are in the background but just the subject is fully visible. I think this would work well for a biography or autobiography cover.

Book Cover Potential, V

Book covers inspired by these kitten pictures? Yes, please! Maybe I'm just in love with these adorable pictures but I think they might make a pretty awesome book cover too. Plus everybody loves a little gold foil so let's add that in, too.

A couple more photos under the jump, just for extra cuteness.

(ps I wish I knew the original source for these but I just found them over on Tumblr. If you know, tell me!)

Book Cover Potential, IV

It feels like I've been viewing every image as a book cover lately. Maybe I just have cover fever. Maybe I just really like seeing the potential in the collaboration of photography and literature.

I know I've seen this photograph before, but this time it struck me as something new and super awesome. I think Peter, by Kate Bieschke, as part of her "Performance for the Camera" series, would make a great cover.

Book Cover Potential, III

There are so many great colors in this butterfly image. I think it would create a very eye-catching book cover.

Book Cover Potential, II

I'd love to see this as a book cover. Especially if some metallic silver lines or type were incorporated (like on the album art for Arcade Fire's "Funeral").

I found this image on Tumblr, but I have no idea where it came from. If you know, please tell me!

Book Cover Potential

I spend a lot of time looking at design and photography blogs, and sometimes I see photographs that I think would fit perfectly on book covers. For example: these images by Tereza Vlckova
