With Science!

For some reason, a few people I work with have recently become obsessed with "She Blinded Me With Science" and they play the song about an hour before we leave for the day... not that I'm complaining. This experiment kit from LabRats and this colorful cover for "Periodic Tales" both instantly got that song stuck in my head.

The "Periodic Tales" cover was designed by Alison Forner, and the LabRats kit was produced by WORKlabs. Good book design is good book design, even if its a fake book filled with experiment tools.

Higher Gossip

Posthumous publications kind of weird me out, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to read them. For example, I'll always take more John Updike books on my shelf.

But when I saw the cover for "Higher Gossip" I was really hoping it was a rough draft, or something. I'm still holding out for that theory to be true. Sure, I love white space as much as the next girl, but this white space is all wrong. I'm just real confused about what is, and is not, happening here.
So in the meantime, let's think about some good lookin' Updikes: persons and covers.

All the covers from the set are really beautiful but here are a few of my favorites:

Gladwell

After about a month of computer chaos with the store, I finally have my laptop back, in working order and ready for blogging again. While I wasn't posting, I not surprisingly did a lot of reading, including Malcolm Gladwell's "The Tipping Point" and "Outliers", which I loved. I might just be feeling some college nostalgia, but I wish I would have read Gladwell while in school, though, because I always wanted someone to discuss each chapter with when I was through.

When I saw Malcolm Gladwell: Collected on the dieline last week, I was thrilled. Sure, I love the simplicity of the original covers for three books ("Tipping Point", "Outliers" and "Blink") but Collected is beautifully hardbound and illustrated.

The collection was designed by Paul Sahre and illustrated by Brian Rea (you could really spend hours looking at each of their portfolios).

You can see more photos and learn more about Collected over at the dieline.
